The Unfinished Story

Agent Buddy Davenport and Greg Gaines

*Feel free to share this story with your friends and your study groups*

It was January 2019, and I was the speaker for the Summit Study group in Napa, California.  I shared my simple process for selling life insurance which has been the foundation for many teams who turned their life production around.

He didn’t know me and was sitting on the fence about signing up.  Agent Buddy Davenport is no longer on the fence.  He joined our Gold Team Coaching series this year and his team is on the move.

At the end of each year, I pick a handful of agents who followed the process and have the results to show for it and talk about their experience.  However, this isn’t the end of the year, we did this interview in July.  Compared to last year, Buddy’s team is on fire, and he’s all in.

What did you see or hear about our process that convinced you this would be a good fit for your team?
I talked to a couple of people who said you had a really simple process and that the way you talked to the team really helped.

You’re a 50-year agent, and this isn’t an endorsement, but share your impression of the coaching as an agent.
There are a couple of regrets that I have.  Giving up my Series 6 a few years ago, but I got it back, and it was brutal.  The other regret is that I didn’t sign up for this program when I saw it in 2019.  It’s been great.  It’s July, and I’ve already qualified for Chairman’s Circle, and that’s never happened before.

How’s the team doing?
Incredible.  For the first time in my career, in one month, I wrote the largest bonus checks for life sales than I ever have, and I was happy to do it!  They’re excited.

The whole morale of the team has improved, and they let me know it.  It’s not hard.  You give them direction and let them go and have some fun, but we require them to do it.

Buddy’s Warriors (and some stranger who walked in off the street)

We talk with agents when they sign up about the importance of being engaged and following the process, but not everyone does.  The team follows the leader.  Buddy, didn’t just buy training.  Even as a 50-year agent, he is fully engaged and takes time to follow the process.  He met with the team before signing up and got buy-in for the program.  He’s walking the walk too.  He’s one of the first people to log in to our sessions.  They don’t work for me, they work with me, and I’m excited!

We have teams that have written more than this agency, but I’m just as proud of Buddy’s group as we are of anyone else.  The individual life producers for this agency have written as much or more in 6 months than they did for ALL of 2022, and they’re just getting started.

I looked around for anyone who could be more excited than Buddy about this team’s progress, and I found one.  Me.  I’m drunk on the progress of others.  It fires me up to see someone do, what they didn’t think they could.  This story is unfinished.  There’s more in the tank – so buckle up!
